Blog 6 - Postgraduate studies
In today’s post, I will tell you about an interesting MA’s degree that has caught my attention for quite some time. But first, let me ask you a question: do you know what’s a MA’s degree? Welp, it’s an academic rank conferred by college or university after a completion of a course. A master’s degree varies depending on the country, the amount of years and the type of classes and so on. For most of the cases, this degree requires a Bachelor’s degree, it grants a specialization for those individuals that satisfactorily completed a prescribed course of study and have developed skills related to analysis and solution of complex problems in his or her area of study.
After graduating from college, I considered many different options (one of them becoming a public administrator as I mentioned in my previous post), and pursuing a MA’s degree at the University of Bergen was one of them.
Why?
For this Master’s in English, there is a division depending on the area of interest; for those who are willing to expand their knowledge in English literature and culture of this civilization, the Department of foreign languages offers courses and supervision within British, American and other English-speaking literatures and cultures.
For the part of literature, the course takes account of periods from the sixteenth century to the present, and discuss literary, cultural and methodological problems from a range of theoretical perspectives that reflect the research interests of the academic staff.
Supposing that your interests are more related to English linguistics, the department has wide professional expertise, to offer guidance within a broad range of areas such as applied linguistics, syntax, cognitive linguistics, translation theory, pragmatics, sociolinguistics, historical linguistics or combinations of these subjects.
In my case, I’m more inclined to do a Master’s in English linguistics focused in translation theory and/or applied linguistics! Maybe next year, when COVID-19 is over, I’ll consider apply for this program ^^
What about you, people? Do you have a MA’s degree in mind?

ResponderEliminarI do have a MA´s degree in mind which is research and intervention in the psychosocial area from the University Autonoma, in Barcelona. I think this master could help me so much in my career and I expand my horizons. But the thing with this MA is that it is really expensive and the life in Spain it is as well, so for this one I am going to apply for a scholarship and work really hard to save money to go there.
